What the Cardiac Profile test checks
The usual set at Alpha Laboratory covers:
- Lipid profile: total cholesterol, LDL, HDL, triglycerides and ratios;
- hs-CRP, for low-grade inflammation in the arteries;
- Fasting blood sugar, since diabetes is a major heart risk;
- Lipoprotein (a) and homocysteine, where the doctor asks for them.
Some doctors add the apolipoprotein test. The exact list depends on your slip; we'll confirm it when you book. This is close to our Heart Health package, which doesn't include an ECG (we're a lab only).
Why your doctor may order it
- you're over 40, or over 30 with a parent who had early heart disease;
- you have diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney disease or a thyroid problem;
- you smoke, carry extra weight around the waist, or sit most of the day;
- a yearly check after starting cholesterol or BP treatment.
People often ask us for a "heart test" when they mean this profile. If you have chest pain or breathlessness now, please go to the nearest emergency department instead; this panel can't assess that.
How to prepare
Fast overnight for 10 to 12 hours. Drink water, but skip tea, milk and any early snack. Avoid alcohol and fried food the evening before, as both distort triglycerides and sugar.
Take regular medicines as usual unless your doctor has said otherwise. See the blood test preparation guide for more.
Sample type and report time
We collect serum for the lipid and specialised parts and a small grey-top tube for sugar, all in one draw. Routine parts are usually ready the same day if the sample is given by about 11 am. Lp(a), homocysteine and apolipoproteins are collected here and processed in-house or at a partner reference laboratory, depending on the test, usually in 1–3 working days.
Older parents can book home sample collection on 8872524007.
Understanding your results
Each part has its own reference range on the report, and ranges vary by lab and method. No single number decides your risk. Your doctor combines the results with your age, blood pressure, smoking and family history, often using a risk score, and decides what, if anything, needs to change.
FAQ
Is a heart test at a lab the same as an ECG?
No. A lab cardiac profile looks at blood markers of risk. An ECG records the heart's electrical activity and is done at a clinic or hospital.
How often should I get a cardiac profile test?
Your doctor decides, but many adults with risk factors repeat it yearly, and sooner after a change in treatment.
Is there a cardiac profile test near me in Banur?
Yes. Anyone searching for a cardiac profile test near me can come fasting to our M.C. Road lab from 7:00 am.
What does the cardiac profile cost?
It depends on which tests your doctor includes. Call or WhatsApp for the current price.
