Thyroid blood tests in Banur

The thyroid is a small gland at the front of the neck that sets the pace for much of the body, from heart rate to weight to periods. A thyroid test measures its hormones, or the brain's signal to it, in a blood sample. Most people are sent for one when they feel tired and cold, gain weight without explanation, or have a racing heart and weight loss.

At Alpha Laboratory, Banur, thyroid samples are taken from 7 am and routine reports usually come the same day. Call 8872524007 with your slip if you're unsure which test you need.

Tests in this category

The thyroid profile (T3, T4 and TSH) is the one most slips ask for. A TSH test alone is common for screening and for checking a dose that is already working. When the doctor wants the unbound hormone levels, they write a free T3 test with free T4. The anti TPO test looks for the antibodies behind the most common cause of an underactive thyroid. For everything else we test, see the full test list.

When doctors order these tests

Symptoms are the usual trigger: tiredness, dry skin, hair fall, constipation and heavy periods on the slow side; anxiety, tremor, palpitations and weight loss on the fast side. A swelling in the neck is another.

Thyroid tests are also routine in pregnancy and when a couple is trying to conceive, in women with irregular cycles or PCOS, in newborns and children who are growing slowly, and in anyone with high cholesterol or diabetes. People already on thyroid tablets have regular checks so the doctor can adjust the dose.

Preparation

No fasting is needed for thyroid tests, so you can eat breakfast unless another test on the slip needs a fast. Many doctors like the sample in the morning, and at a similar time each visit, because TSH varies a little through the day.

If you take a thyroid tablet, ask your doctor whether to give the sample before that day's dose. Biotin supplements, often sold for hair and nails, can upset the results; tell us if you take one.

Packages that include them

Our Thyroid Check package covers the thyroid profile plus anti-TPO. The thyroid profile is also part of the Full Body Checkup and the Women's Health package. Ask on 8872524007 which one matches your doctor's list.

FAQ

Do I need to fast for a thyroid test?

No. Thyroid tests can be done after food. Only fast if another test on the same slip asks for it.

How quickly will I get my thyroid report?

Thyroid profiles are usually reported the same day when the sample is given by about 11 am, on paper and as a PDF on WhatsApp.

Which thyroid test should I ask for?

Follow your doctor's slip. If you don't have one, a TSH or thyroid profile is the usual starting point, and your doctor can add more.

Can thyroid samples be collected at home?

Yes. Home collection runs daily in Banur and nearby villages, and in Rajpura, Zirakpur and the Mohali side by appointment.
