Blood Group & Rh Typing test in Banur

A blood group test tells you two things: your ABO group (A, B, AB or O) and whether you are Rh positive or Rh negative. Together they give the familiar label such as "B positive" or "O negative". Your group doesn't change through life, so most people need this test only once, as long as they keep the report safe.

What the Blood Group test checks

Red cells carry markers called antigens on their surface. Group A cells have the A antigen, group B the B antigen, AB both, and O neither. Rh positive means the D antigen is present.

The plasma, in turn, carries antibodies against the ABO antigens you lack. Someone who is group A has anti-B antibodies, for example. A careful lab checks both sides of this picture.

Why your doctor may order it

  • pregnancy booking, so an Rh-negative mother can be identified early
  • before surgery or a planned transfusion
  • for a blood donation camp or a donor card
  • for school, job, passport, driving licence or army recruitment forms
  • before marriage, when couples simply want to know

In pregnancy, an Rh-negative mother carrying an Rh-positive baby can form antibodies that affect a later pregnancy. Your obstetrician may follow up with an indirect Coombs test and decide on anti-D, which is a medical decision for the doctor.

How to prepare

Nothing to prepare. Eat normally. Bring a photo ID if the report is for an official form, so the name is printed exactly as on your documents.

Sample type and report time

People often ask how to test blood group at a lab. We take a small venous sample into an EDTA tube. In forward grouping, your red cells are mixed with anti-A, anti-B and anti-D reagents and watched for clumping (agglutination). In reverse grouping, your plasma is mixed with known A and B cells. Both should agree before a group is reported.

The result is usually ready the same day. Home collection is available, which helps for elderly family members.

Understanding your results

Clumping with anti-A means A antigen is present, with anti-B means B, and with anti-D means Rh positive. In India, B positive and O positive are the most common groups, and roughly 1 in 20 people is Rh negative.

Occasionally the two methods don't agree. Newborns under about 4–6 months don't yet have their own antibodies, so reverse grouping isn't reliable and the forward group alone is reported. Rare types, such as the Bombay blood group first described in Mumbai, need a reference blood bank. A blood group report is not a cross-match; before any transfusion the blood bank always does its own testing.

FAQ

Can my blood group change?

No, it stays the same for life in almost every case. Rare exceptions, like after a bone marrow transplant, are managed by specialists.

Can a baby's blood group be tested?

Yes, from a small sample. For very young babies only forward grouping is reliable.

Is a blood group test near me in Banur available on Sunday?

For a blood group test near me in Banur on Sunday, come between 7 am and 1 pm.

Do parents' groups decide the child's group?

They limit the possibilities, but they can't predict the exact group. A test is the only way to know.
